We were at a fundraising event recently and someone asked whether we were almost “out of a job” at Crossroads Jobs since unemployment is so low. Good question, but the answer is a resounding NO!
The unemployment rate can be misleading. Unemployment is calculated by including all jobs, full time, part time, high pay, low pay. Many of our applicants are unemployed due to obstacles that have prevented them from finding a job. Others are underemployed, working low-paying jobs. In some cases, they work multiple jobs to make ends meet. In other cases, they rely on assistance from government agencies or other nonprofits.
At Crossroads Jobs, we strive to connect individuals with permanent, living wage employment. We would love to put ourselves “out of a job” by placing all job seekers in a good job. We can hope, but in the meantime, we will keep doing what we do. We believe there is a job for everyone!
